Hope

Got Hope?

My flu-sick son looked up me from his bed and said, “I hope I get better soon.”

For Jake, he was using the word “hope” like a wish … a dream.

He was “hoping” that he would get better like a person scratching a lottery ticket “hopes” that this is the winning ticket - the path to becoming a millionaire.

Jake had been sick for two days, and for him, it seemed like forever.  He was tired of bed, tired of feeling miserable, he was even tired of television!

Have you ever been sick and tired of being sick and tired?

Never Give Up!

Everybody falls down.  People of hope keep getting back up.

Life has a way of knocking all of us down at some point.
In fact,  you may be walking through a season right now where you feel like life is picking on you in particular.

Winston Churchill gave the famous "Never Give Up" speech.  It seems like these words weren't just lip service for Churchill.  Apparently he learned how to live these words.

Story of Hope #4

Life is difficult! Plansoften fail... Desiresmay not come to fruition... The road of lifeis rarely smooth and easy.

But ...hope helps us to PRESS ON.

A Story of Hope:
Bill Gates, founder and chairman of Microsoft, has literally changed the work culture of the world in the 21st century, by simplifying the way computer is being used. He happens to be the world's richest man for the last one decade. BUT, in the 70's before starting out, he was a Harvard University dropout. The most ironic part is that, he started a software company (that was soon to become Microsoft) by purchasing the software technology from "someone" for only $50.

Story of Hope #3

If at first you don't succeed ... Quit? NO, NO, NO - that's not how it goes.

If at first you don't succeed ... Try, try again!

Hope is the fuel that allows us to try, try again.

Without hope ... I tend to quit.

John Grisham's first novel was rejected by sixteen agents and twelve publishing houses. He went on writing and writing until he became best known as a novelist and author for his works of modern legal drama. The media has coined him as one of the best novel authors of the 21st century.

Story of Hope #2

michael jordanUnhappy with where you're at today?  Where do you hope to wind up?

Not everyone who is living the life you desire got there without a season of disappointment and struggle.

By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time. A phenomenal athlete with a unique combination of grace, speed, power, artistry, improvisational ability and an unquenchable competitive desire. Jordan single-handedly redefined the NBA superstar.

Before joining NBA, Jordan was just an ordinary person, so ordinary that was cut from high school basketball team because of his "lack of skill".

Hope Requires Action

EMDR-Healing-TraumaYou can sit around all day hoping and praying that you will finally be able to get over what happened to you in the past, butif you don’t get up and do something, you may find yourself in that dark, painful place called hopelessness.

That might seem obvious, but it’s still scary to face your demons, right?

Many people put off dealing with upsetting memories because of fear …
    - Fear that they will never be able to get over their pain
    - Fear that they will lose control

Hope - Wishful Dreaming or Confident Assurance?

Hope - When life doesn't turn out like we planned

My wife and I had just moved into our first home. It wasn’t big … but it was ours!

That first Saturday, I got up early in the morning and prepared to do yard work. I don’t think I’ll ever forget how strangely excited I was to mow the lawn, trim a tree in the back yard, cut back the shrubs, and weed the flower bed. In fact, I don’t know if I ever again looked forward to yard work, but that Saturday I was thrilled to be working in MY yard.

The next weekend, Kathy and I did some work inside the home.

Finding Hope

Hope is powerful in our lives.  When we are depressed or overwhelmed, hopeinfuses uswith the power to more accurately see reality.  Hopehelps us envisiona better tomorrow.  Hopestrengthens usandgives us initiativeto press on and push forward.

I remember a season in my life when I was way over my head.  I felt like I was in a downward spiral.
